In Fall 2023, UCLA launched a major in Disability Studies. The Disability Studies curriculum focuses on the concept of the social model of disability, which is the idea that the barriers people with disabilities face are caused by society rather than by their disability. Instead of the misconception that a disability must be treated or cured, this model focuses on building systems of inclusion.
